Granny and Cluster Crochet: Terms, Tutorials & Patterns

Why the Names Need Context
“Granny cluster” and “cluster stitch” do not always mean the same construction. A classic granny cluster is commonly three completed double crochets worked into one space. Other cluster stitches use partial stitches closed together. Check the source definition before following any pattern or tutorial.
If you’re practicing cluster stitches for the first time, a light, smooth worsted weight yarn makes it much easier to see where each stitch actually closes.
1. Classic Granny Square Tutorial

2. Granny Stripe Stitch Tutorial
