Granny stripe blankets use granny style clusters worked in rows, with dimensions, yarn, and color changes varying by design.
Since there’s a color change in nearly every row here, stitch markers to flag where you left off make picking the project back up much easier.
Granny stripe blanket patterns to explore
1. Granny Stripe Blanket
This is Purl Soho’s bed size granny stripe blanket, made to show that granny style can be modern and elegant. The designer says the playful color note harks back to fun, funky crocheted blankets, so the neutral base with a bright stripe is the point. It is the biggest project of the seven, so plan for a lot of yarn and time.

2. Vintage Granny Stripe Blanket
Tiffany used Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo Stripes in Latte, and the warm, retro color changes are what gives it the vintage feel. She says the granny stitch was one of the first she learned, and that once you have crocheted a few rows the repeat is easy to remember, so it is a project for watching TV.

3. Three Color Granny Stripe Celebration Blanket
Daisy Farm Crafts made this to celebrate a three-year-old’s birthday. You never cut the yarn: you just switch colors each row and carry the colors up the side, then cover the carried ends with a single crochet border. It is written for Caron Simply Soft, but any 4 weight yarn works, and she gives the pattern repeat so you can make the base chain any size.

4. Granny Stripe Blanket in Cotton Pure
This Purl Soho version is an update of one of their earliest patterns, made with one cone of Cotton Pure for the main color and one skein for the stripes, in a neutral palette. It is in rows of three double crochet clusters, and cotton gives a crisp, modern feel.

5. Crochet Striped Modern Granny Blanket
Hannah from Daisy Farm Crafts made this in Caron Simply Soft: 2 skeins white, 2 soft green, 1 plum wine and 1 gray heather, on a 4 mm hook, and it finishes 30 by 38 inches. It uses double crochet 3 together as a special stitch, so it looks a little different from a classic granny stripe.

6. Granny Stripe Crochet Pattern
Carmen says any yarn weight works, as long as you match the hook, and worsted is popular because it works up quickly into a snug blanket. You can use one color or several, and she made samples to inspire you, and there is an optional simple border around the sides.

7. Granny Stripe
Sarah-Jayne Fragola’s granny stripe is worked in Stylecraft Special DK in two colors on a 5 mm hook, but any yarn weight works with the hook on the label. The page has a section of FAQs, including whether it is suitable for beginners, and she suggests watching the video tutorial if you are comfortable with chain, double crochet and treble.
