Ten free crochet glove patterns in three groups: four dragon scale gloves worked in crocodile stitch, three fingerless pairs and three gloves with fingers. The dragon scale ones are the scaly ombre style you see all over Pinterest, and I picked the ones I could trace back to the creator, with a free written pattern wherever I found one.
Every pattern here is free, and every link goes to the designer’s own page or video. One of the dragon scale entries is a YouTube video instead of a written pattern, so read its description first. Gloves with fingers are the hardest group, and the designers rate them intermediate or advanced. For mittens without finger separation, I have a roundup of crochet mittens.
Crochet glove patterns to explore
1. Crocodile Stitch Fingerless Gloves
Designer Lianka Azulay at Furls Crochet. Dragon scale style gloves with a knit look ribbed cuff, worked in crocodile stitch over V stitches. Both parts of the pattern are on the page, in small/medium (6.5 to 7.5 inch hand) and large/extra large (7.5 to 8.5 inch hand). It takes about 400 yards of sport weight yarn and an F/3.75 mm hook. The designer rates it intermediate, says an adventurous beginner can manage it with the photos, and asks you to check gauge first.

2. Dragon Gloves
From Psychedelic Doilies. Dragon scale gloves with the free written pattern and a free video tutorial on the same page. The crocodile stitch is worked as 5 double crochets down one post and 5 up the next, for 5 rows of scales. It is rated intermediate, in US terms, using 222 yards of yarn and a 4.5 mm hook for small, 5 mm for medium or 5.5 mm for large. The sample used multicolored Red Heart Unforgettable for the ombre look.

3. Crocodile Stitch Finger less Gloves
From Meladora’s Creations. Crocodile stitch fingerless gloves in worsted weight yarn on a 5 mm hook, using 2 skeins of about 262 yards. The page teaches the stitch as a simple two row repeat, starting from a chain of 24, and gives the free written pattern with right handed and left handed video tutorials. The designer warns that crocodile stitch makes gloves bigger, so start with a chain your hand can pass through easily.

4. Crochet Dragon scale gloves | easy tutorial
Channel Lauren Lewis on YouTube. A 38 minute video for dragon scale gloves, posted in 2017 and titled an easy tutorial. The description says the pattern is the creator’s own, taking inspiration from another video. It is a follow along video with no written pattern in the description, so keep a notebook handy for your stitch counts.

5. Granny Square Fingerless Gloves
From Lullaby Lodge. Fingerless gloves made from granny squares in DK weight yarn, using less than one ball of each color per pair. The hooks are 4.0, 3.5 and 3.0 mm, and the fit is snug with zero ease, so size up if you want room. The free written pattern covers adult sizes S, M, L and XL, with a size guide based on your hand measured above the thumb and across the knuckles, and a video tutorial.

6. The Bauble Fingerless Gloves
From I Need It Crochet. Fingerless gloves worked in bead stitch for a bumpy, textured look, and the page has a tutorial for the stitch. The sample used about 95 yards of worsted weight Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable and a 5 mm hook. 8. Knit-Like Crochet Gloves with Flying Hearts
Designer Nicole Riley at Nicki’s Homemade Crafts. Full finger gloves worked in the waistcoat stitch, which gives a knit look, in two colors. The pattern has separate sections for the pointer, middle, ring and pinky fingers and the thumb. It uses Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran Tonals and a 5 mm hook for an adult size of 9.25 by 4.5 inches. The free written pattern is on the page.

9. Jersey Gloves
Designer Kim Guzman at CrochetKim. Full finger gloves in fingering weight Cascade 220, about 120 yards of one color and 100 of another, with a 4 mm and a 3.5 mm hook. Kim rates them intermediate and says it is all single crochet in four variations. Some testers struggled with the finger separation, so the advice is to crochet exactly as written without trying to work out the logic. The pattern is free.

10. Cozy Striped Crochet Gloves
From B.Hooked Crochet. Striped gloves with fingers, rated advanced and described as a project that builds your pattern reading skills. They measure 8.5 inches long for a 7 to 8 inch hand and use about 250 yards of Bernat Baby Blanket Tiny in the main color, 50 yards in the contrast and a 5 mm hook. The free pattern on the page comes with a video tutorial.
